Capt. Amparo E. Romero Ortiz is an Electronic Warfare Officer currently serving as a Tactics Officer for the 38th Reconnaissance Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska. She is responsible for RC-135 tactics development and combat training scenarios for 16 mission ready crews and 9 crew positions. As a member of the RC-135 community, Capt. Romero Ortiz maintains proficiency in all RC-135 peacetime, wartime, and nuclear enterprise missions.
She received her commission from the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School in 2012. She’s logged more than 900 flying hours in the DA-20, T-9, T-1A, and RC-135, and she’s flown missions for both Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, the code name for the military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and Operation FREEDOM’S SENTINEL in Afghanistan.
Raised not too far from here in North Hollywood, California, Capt. Romero Ortiz earned both B.S. and M.S. degrees in in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California. She’s been the recipient of several major awards, including an Air Medal, an Aerial Achievement Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, an AF Outstanding Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, a National Defense Service Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and an Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, to name just a few.
