As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Lead Project Engineer of a team of five engineers on a classified program for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, Naomi Hernandez exhibits a level of professional achievement that few people ever manage to attain. With significant responsibilities, including program operations, technical integration, change integration, and risk management, Ms. Hernandez is focused on leading and innovating through quality execution.

With a background that includes roles at RJN Group, Frito Lay, Bell Helicopter, and Booze Allen Hamilton, it is difficult to believe that this engineer who finished her first semester of graduate school for her M.S. in Systems Engineering from Southern Methodist University with a 4.0 grade point average, nearly ended her college education after her first year as an undergraduate when she earned a 0.4 GPA due to a lack of discipline in her freshman year.

It was a wake-up call for Ms. Hernandez who had excelled in high school and earned a full academic scholarship. Inspired and assisted by the SMU chapter of the SHPE that she helped found, she turned her studies around and launched on the path that has brought her numerous career achievements including a Young Hispanic Corporate Achiever (YHCA) Award while at Frito Lay, a role on the SHPE National Board of Directors, a Junipero Serra Award for her decade of service to that organization, and a congratulatory call from President Barack Obama after her work on the Master Systems Integrator team for www.healthcare.gov helped remedy the federal Affordable Care Act enrollment website’s initial problems.

Besides her involvement with SHPE, Ms. Hernandez other mentoring activities include work with Latinas in STEM, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, MentorNet, and employee resource groups including Northrop Grumman’s Adelante. Both in her work and her volunteer activities, she continues to exemplify exceptional motivation, initiative, and dedication to excellence.
