As the mobile telecommunications business transitions to the next generation 5G wireless networks, Nelci O’Brien will play a large role in helping Verizon manage that quantum leap in netowrk speed and capabilities.
As the Headquarters Core Network Services Manager for the communications giant, Ms. O’Brien provides managerial and technical leadership for network design and service development in support of the company’s LTE in Rural America and Wholesale Customer initiatives. It is a position that requires extensive knowledge of customer needs and the existing network architecture and capabilities to drive solutions that deliver superior business results while maintaining industry-leading network reliability.
Ms. O’Brien skillfully navigates the technological side of her duties, along with the team and customer management responsibilities and long-term planning and strategy development with a tremendous work ethic and a creative, solutions-oriented approach to her tasks, earning her the respect and admiration of her team, her colleagues, her clients, and her supervisors.
Born in Venezuela, Ms. O’Brien studied at Andres Bello Catholic University where she earned a B.S. in Industrial Relations (Cum Laude) and an M.S. in Human Resources. After starting her career in the Venezuelan banking industry as a Human Resources Manager and Marketing Manager, she decided to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia to obtain her MBA in Finance which she completed in 1994.
While she was in the U.S., she fell in love and decided to find a job and move here permanently. Initially she worked at Ingersoll-Rand, where she was first a Financial Management Trainee before becoming a Financial Analyst for the Construction and Mining Group.
Ms. O’Brien joined Verizon in 1999 as a Marketing Product Manager where managed a budget of $10 million, before becoming a Project Manager and Member of the Technical Staff in the Product Development and Network Implementation departments. She moved on to a job as Principal Engineer for Product Development and Network Charging and then became Headquarters Network Real Estate manager before assuming her current role.
In her spare time, Ms. O’Brien trains her beloved Border Collies to compete in dog agility contests.
