Isaac
Camacho

Global Associate Sustainability Director

Dow

Education:
-B.S. in Chemical Engineering — Universidad de las Américas, Puebla (Mexico)

Isaac Camacho has dedicated his career to redefining how global industries approach sustainability, digital transformation, and carbon accountability. As Associate Sustainability Director at Dow, his technical leadership has delivered groundbreaking tools that are shaping enterprise-wide decarbonization strategies and setting global benchmarks for transparency.

At the heart of Isaac’s contributions is the development of an automated carbon footprint calculation system that traces the full genealogy of products across Dow’s vast manufacturing networks. Integrating data from multiple platforms and manufacturing execution systems, his initiative maps raw materials, utilities, emissions, and cost structures with unparalleled accuracy. By embedding thermodynamic principles such as entropy and exergy into these models, his framework provides a scientifically rigorous basis for product-level carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) measurement.

Mr. Camacho’s Carbon Footprint Ledger (CFL), a mass-balance-based inventory aligned with international standards like ISO 14067 and Together for Sustainability, now underpins Dow’s ability to transact on lower-carbon products. This tool not only automates lifecycle analysis across tens of thousands of products but also empowers decision-makers with real-time scenario analysis, enabling cost, energy, and emissions trade-offs to be evaluated simultaneously.

Beyond the models themselves, Isaac has been instrumental in data governance and cross-functional capability building. By bridging disciplines such as R&D, Finance, EH&S, and IT, he has cultivated a shared literacy around carbon metrics, ensuring sustainability is embedded across organizational silos.  His leadership has allowed Dow to not only measure its carbon impact with precision but also use those insights to drive strategy, investment, and innovation.

Mr. Camacho’s rare ability to integrate chemical engineering, IT systems, and sustainability science has positioned him as a global leader in carbon strategy and digital manufacturing. His work exemplifies the impact of technical innovation when guided by vision and persistence. His path from humble beginnings in Toluca, Mexico, to corporate leadership reflects resilience, curiosity, and determination. Raised during a period of economic turmoil, he was taught by his parents and grandmother that education was the path to a better life. A 90% scholarship to the Universidad de las Américas Puebla made university possible, and his drive, persistence and discipline powered him to a chemical engineering degree.

This all despite facing a few early academic setbacks and balancing an often four-hour commute to work at Dow’s Tlaxcala plant while completing his degree.  Mr. Camacho emerged from these experiences with confidence in his ability to merge theory with practice, and his early projects in plant automation and process safety laid the foundation for a career where engineering rigor meets practical impact.

Global assignments soon expanded his perspective. From leading cybersecurity and automation upgrades across Europe, Russia, and India to mastering multiple languages — including Italian, Portuguese, French, and English — Mr. Camacho became both a technical leader and a cultural bridge in multinational teams. Equally important, his personal life has shaped his leadership. Fatherhood deepened his sense of purpose, while his wife’s partnership provided balance and grounding.

Mr. Camacho’s career exemplifies the fusion of technical mastery and human resilience. His innovations in carbon accounting and digital transformation are influencing how industries confront climate challenges, while his personal journey from modest origins to global leadership inspires the next generation of scientists and engineers.
