Raised in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Marco Ebelin was deeply influenced by both his mother’s journey and his own experiences in the hospital. As a refugee, his mother believed education was the key to building a better life. She became an ESL teacher, and through her work, he witnessed how education could transform lives and open opportunities for entire communities.
During high school, Marco spent considerable time in the hospital due to a genetic condition. His physician became a constant source of encouragement and care, demonstrating the profound ability of doctors to uplift patients during their most vulnerable moments. Later, when [Name] entered college, this same physician invited him to shadow, offering a firsthand view of the deep impact a physician can have on patients and their families.
At the same time, his passion for learning—instilled by his mother—drew him to the field of electrical engineering. He thrived on problem-solving and discovery, but he also longed for a career where he could directly touch people’s lives. These dual influences in medicine and engineering ultimately inspired him to pursue an MD/Ph.D. program.
Aspiring to be both a physician and researcher, Marco seeks to integrate electrical engineering with medicine to create innovative medical technologies that improve patient outcomes. His long-term goal is to bridge these fields in order to advance healthcare and provide compassionate, meaningful care, particularly for underrepresented Latino communities.
