2021 GMiS Luminary Honorees

 
 

José Figueroa is the Supervisor of the Carbon Capture Team supporting the U.S. Department of Energy National Energy Technology Laboratory, where he promotes the integration of research and business needs in the lab’s valiant efforts to mitigate the effects of carbon emissions for the global climate emergency.

With 29 years of experience in the power generation industry spanning both the private and public sectors, Mr. Figueroa has worked in areas from commercial scale construction and demonstration projects to management of breakthrough concept research and development projects.

He supervises, mentors, and provides technical oversight to a team of project managers for 103 projects that support the Carbon Capture Program valued at approximately $676 million.

A Hispanic-American with a genealogy from Honduras to Jordan, Mr. Figueroa is the son of immigrants and was raised in New York City where he learned English as a second language in both the public and Catholic school systems.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Manhattan College before attending the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business for his MBA.

Mr. Figueroa has mentored and advised executives, professionals, professors, and students through professional, social, and other communication media to support STEM-related careers and business development within the local community.
