Dr. Arturo Gutierrez knows that he’s beaten the odds on his path to a successful career as a Materials Scientist in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division of Argonne National Laboratory.
Raised by his paternal grandmother after he lost his father to senseless violence, Dr. Gutierrez enlisted in the U.S. Army and pursued higher education after mentors encouraged him to further his studies relating to the equipment operated in the service.
Soon, armed with a B.A. from Boise State University and a Ph.D from The University of Texas, Dr. Gutierrez joined Argonne National Laboratory as a staff scientist, where he’s now making innovative contributions to electrochemical energy storage and advanced Lithium-Ion battery technology.
Dr. Gutierrez continues to honor his roots as a working-class Hispanic child with what he thought were limited prospects through his work as a troop leader with the Boy Scouts of America and other volunteer activities.
