Glenda Valero de Silana is an outstanding leader at Chevron who has demonstrated exceptional commitment, vision, and impact not only in the Human Resources function, but also the company’s Hispanic and Latino employee resource group, Somos. As Chief Learning and Talent Officer, she sets the strategic direction of the company’s learning initiatives and talent development, including leadership development specifically for Hispanic employees at all levels of the organization.
When Glenda joined Chevron as an intern more than 20 years ago, she immediately volunteered with the then-newly formed Somos. She quickly learned to navigate corporate life by networking with fellow members who helped her integrate into her new role, something she has never forgotten.
As co-executive sponsor of Somos, Glenda initiated and supported various programs and initiatives that benefited not only members of the network, but the broader company culture and business goals, too.
In 2023, she played a key role in supporting expansion of benchmark mentoring programs to Chevron’s international sites, involving more than 200 participants. She’s found success leveraging the Chevron Latino Leadership Academy to identify mid-career high potential employees to participate and continue growing their skills. She always shares her career journey, wisdom, and expertise with members and affords them a safe and supportive space to express their ideas, concerns, and aspirations.
Glenda also serves as the relationship manager with the Hispanic Association of Corporate Responsibility, where she strengthens Chevron’s commitment to inclusion by helping ensure the Somos leadership team has access to the company’s leadership programs. She personally volunteers her time to mentor early and mid-career employees as well as others who reach out for support.
Glenda advanced quickly early in her career by taking complex assignments in challenging locations that required progressively more complex roles. Throughout, she has leveraged her higher level of visibility to promote diversity and inclusion while encouraging employees to overperform in their jobs so that they can develop and find ways to advance their careers.
Today she oversees career progression and leadership programs to grow talent at all levels and functions of an expanding workforce. Outside of the office, Glenda was selected to be part of the American Heart Association’s 2024 Woman of Impact campaign, a nine week competition where nominees raise funds for heart and stroke health and are champions for health equity.
Glenda has always found ways to encourage the inclusion of everyone’s ideas as a philosophy to obtain better outcomes from diverse teams. Through her many years at Chevron, her dedication and leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts have fostered a culture of respect, collaboration, and belonging in every team she has worked with.
