Senior Development Planner

Gato do Mato Project

Shell Deepwater Brazil
Shell Oil Company

As Senior Development Planner for Shell Oil’s Brazilian Gato do Mato Project, Camilo Muriel is a member of the Project Leadership Team, working closely with the Front End Development Manager and Business Opportunity Manager.

The role requires a broad understanding of both subsurface and engineering challenges, strong teamworking, networking and interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal with data ambiguity and multiple, often conflicting, customer priorities while staying focused on delivery.

According to Mr. Muriel, the secret to his success in his position is “creating the link between the technical work and the business impact” of his decisions.

Prior to his current role, he was a Reservoir Engineer supporting Shell’s Deepwater Assets in the Gulf of Mexico, which produces roughly 100,000 barrels of oil a day.

Born in Columbia, Mr. Muriel moved with his family to the US when he was 17 and earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston.

In addition to his engineering duties for Shell, Mr. Muriel is President of SEA Shell, his company’s LGBT Employee Resource Group and made tremendous strides in growing the community in Shell’s New Orleans office.
