Ms. Christine Lozano is a young, promising civil engineer at the Information Technology Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center.

With an M.S. in Civil Engineering from LeTourneau University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas, Ms. Lozano is heavily involved in research to support the nationwide navigation infrastructure through the modeling of structures and materials

In particular, she works on the analysis of hydraulic structures like locks and dams and researches techniques to extend the useful life of these structures.

Ms. Lozano’s work in the area of fatigue and fracture has contributed to significant cost and time savings on navigation steel structure repairs while extending the life of these structures by two to three times through an easily installed fiber reinforced polymer patch that she helped develop.

The Columbian-born engineer has authored and co-authored several peer reviewed papers and has also been invited to conduct seminars at several universities concerning fatigue and fracture, crack mitigation, and computational analysis.

Ms. Lozano is also stays active within her community by providing tutoring in STEM subjects, assisting with ESL classes, and by her involvement in a diversity and inclusion committee at her workplace.
