2021 HENAAC Awards

 

It wasn’t enough for Luis Alcoser to complete his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Natural Gas and Petroleum Engineering. This determined executive decided to pursue two additional master’s degrees on his way to a Ph.D. in Jurisprudence. That drive has fueled him on his rise to General Manager of Future Energy for Chevron’s Future Energy Venture Fund.

As GM of this innovative division, Mr. Alcoser supervises a team of investment managers who scout, fund & manage a portfolio of startup companies on the forefront of alternative sources of energy.

He has personally led over a dozen multimillion-dollar strategic investments, delivered hundreds of millions of dollars more in strategic value per year, and provided substantial strategic leadership to Chevron.

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas to first generation Mexican American parents, Mr. Alcoser worked as a roughneck in the Texas oilfields to help pay his way through college. After graduation, he took his first management job in the industry, leading a crew of 50 people on a hydraulic Fracking project in South Texas.

Ascending through the ranks of the energy industry, including overseas assignments in Africa, Asia, and Russia, Mr. Alcoser soon moved from the oil fields to the venture world, all while pursuing and completing his multiple advanced degrees.

Determined to pay it forward, Mr. Alcoser has made it a personal mission to give back to the Hispanic community in ways that leverage his unique expertise and experience.He’s working to create the first Impact Fund in Houston to support historically overlooked entrepreneurs of color and provide mentoring through local accelerators and incubators.
