2021 STEM Hero Honorees

Luis Valcourt Colón is the Lead Software Developer for the Battle Management System at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division.  In this role, he provides key contributions to the ‘High Volume Long Range Precision Strike’ Platform, developing innovative solutions for emerging warfighter challenges for the U.S. Navy and other services.

Mr. Valcourt Colon also serves as the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Lead for the SeaPerch Program, a STEM outreach program designed to unite science and engineering professionals with middle and high school students and teachers.

He’s proven to be an exceptional SeaPerch collaborator and mentor, expanding the area of impact from 4 local school districts to 40 schools in Virginia and 10 schools in Puerto Rico.

Luis has been effective at introducing innovative ideas and engaging students and teachers, and this skill has allowed him to take what started as a very small outreach program within the local vicinity of Dahlgren, Virginia and grow it into one of the most active and effective STEM programs Naval Surface Warfare Center, engaging over 350 students and 40 teachers of across multiple nationalities and ethnicities.
