2022 GMiS Luminary Honorees

Nicholas Corzo is a Senior Production Engineer at the ethylene oxide manufacturing facility, located at Dow’s St. Charles Operations outside New Orleans – just across the Mississippi River from his hometown of Destrehan. Hired in 2019, he got involved with multiple plant activities immediately, taking full advantage of opportunities to master the plant’s technology and drive continuous improvement. He’s quickly earned a reputation for delivering results and continually improving safety and reliability facility-wide.

Mr. Corzo recently distinguished himself leading an effort to test the maximum production capacity for the ethylene oxide plant, which hadn’t been extended for several years. He worked with business leadership, supply chain and logistics organizations and the plant’s technology center to ensure that all possible obstacles were identified and addressed. His efforts contributed to a 3% production increase, which translates into a $10 million increase in the annual valuation of ethylene oxide.

In 2020, Mr. Corzo led a team of process engineers, technology subject matter experts, and general staff members to solve a foaming/flooding issue in a distillation column that was limiting production. His team’s study proved that a higher capacity design for a critical part was the best solution.

Born to an immigrant mother whose family fled war-torn Nicaragua in the 1980s, Mr. Corzo takes his responsibility as a role model for underserved students very seriously. He’s active with Dow’s Hispanic and Latin Network and serves as a volunteer mentor with the Dow Leadership Academy program, connecting Dow professionals with local high school students to help inspire and nurture their career aspirations.
